Upto US$5000 cash you need to tell them nothing.

Don't worry about it just sail through the green channel like you do it every week and you'll have no problem!!
And like pooch says they won't bother about such a small amount of cash any way!! P.S. bring travellers cheques!! |

If possible, please carry at least US$2500/- for a six months' stay.
US$1500/- for six months translates to approx. Rs.375/- per day, which will hardly be sufficient for lodging, boarding, commuting and travelling; not to speak of other things like sight-seeing and photography.

Put most of the money in the bank and use your ATM card -- that way you don't have to feel like a target for the thugs and badmashes.
I agree with Shimla -- even in very small towns, I spend $10-12 per day (approximately Rs 500-550). In the larger cities, much more than that.

How much is enough depends from comforts you need.
I know people who manage with less then 150-200$ per month. For me 300$ was ok, sometimes more or less. I prefer to travel with credit card. |

Hi
I think you must bring a little more, bcause $1500 for 6 months is a bit less. For fooding & lodging in a budget hotel with Rs 350-400 per day you can manage ,but for transport & other fees it will be difficult to survive specially if you are planning to stay at metros and/or other big cities. thanx |
