Need a BIG favor from a computer saavy person in Delhi

I know this is a lot to ask, but I need to find out if Airtel has a Linux version of their ISP software. I am planning to use their 'mobile office' package while in India, and need to know if their software is compatible with the Linux OS.

Can someone call one of the local offices to answer this question? I would do it myself but it will cost me $3.99 a minute from the US.

Thanks in advance......

Surely that cannot be right? $3.99 a minute?

Don't you have any comparison sites like this one? I have just checked, and you can phone India from England for £0.02 per minute, just by dialling 0844 462 35 35 before the number. The cost to call a mobile phone is £0.025 a minute. England to USA landlines or mobile phones costs £0.005 a minute.

I don't have normal long distance on our land line, only my cell, which has outrageous rates for international calls.

Oddly, Airtel has NO email contact listed on their website.

Maybe try on a friend's phone, or some telecom shop?

I'm often surprised with people these days claiming international calls are so expensive. They haven't been for a long time (amazingly cheap, in fact) to many if not most destinations where I live. Yes, those cellphone packages are a bummer, of course. That's what you got when you got the package I suppose.

Try www.vinuthomas.com

If the question is not answered already it soon will be if you ask it there.

But I think its broadband, with a router and an ethernet connection to your PC --- so there is no 'ISP software'.

Skype to India is .09 a minute, very clear.

Reliance (relianceindiacall.com) is .07.

Would you believe it, Grikoo, that Airtel itself has something like 0.06 cents US per minute!

Indeed, I would believe it. I just got off the phone with my mobile service and found out of course that calling india from here is $.35/min, and roaming in India is $3.49/minute.

Will call them tonight.....

I think I know the piece of software you are talking about - its some sort of "no name" dialer programme that airtel use with their USB modems, and for cable connection to standard mobile phones.

It barely works with windows let alone with linux (one small company I help out now and again are having constant problem with it since the phone data cable also terminates on a USB port - and the dialer software has a hard time recognising that anything is there). Another issue - airtel mobile connections go via a airtel proxy (which in the case of windows - the setting are entered in the "lan setting" section of "connections" under "internet options" of the control panel).....just in case it wasn't already complex enough...
