My Travel Plans
Hi there...
I was wondering if someone could make some suggestions as to my travel plans, particularly in regards to climate and weather.
I'll be arriving in Mumbai in Mid-Feb, and spending around a month in the 'tourist triangle' rajahstan, delhi, agra, etc. We fly out from Delhi in Mid April, so I'm wondering how best to spend the remaining month.
I would love to get up into the himalayan regions... Dharamsala and perhaps some of the hill stations. I'm a little unsure as to what conditions will be like from mid march to mid april though. I'm very keen to visit Mussoori as my uncle was born and raised there. Gangotri and Yamunotri sound incredible, but I'm expecting it to be too cold to visit those places in march.
Any advice or suggestions would be great.... Where are good places to visit from mid-march to mid-april.
Thanks!
Richard

I see that you will be in North for most part of your travel, then why are you landing in Mumbai? Just coz Quantas fly direct to Mumbai from Sydney?
I suggest you land in Delhi this will save 2-3 days of yours.
From delhi you can do yes the golden traingle. then off to Dharmshala and maybe a short 2-3 days trek around Dharshala..the weather may still be bit cold.
Gangotri & Yumnotri will be cold but will need information if the snow has melted and roads are clear at that time.
Thencome down to Rishikesh and then off to Musoorie. If you are interested in wildlife, then you can visit Corbett National park.
But this time of the year is good for travelling through Rajasthan and will suggest 10-15 days visiting Udaipur-Jodhpour-Jaiselmer-Bikaner-Shekhawati region and then back to Delhi.

Hey there...
Thanks for your message...
No particular reason for choosing Mumbai, other than that I'd like to have a look around that city. It seemed to be as good a starting point as any for heading up through Rajahstan. Our flights are booked anyway. Very much looking forward to Rajahstan... We aim to be in Jaisalmer for the Desert festival (around the 26th if I recall). I wanted to head generally northwards during our travels, to keep away from the worst of the heat.
My uncle from mussoorie mentioned the Corbett reserve as well, so I'm hoping to get there.
Thanks for your info on Gangotri and Yamunotri. I guess I'll just play it by ear and go with local info when I get there...
Thanks a lot!

if you want to avoid the "indan summer" completely, then anywhere along the "hill-station belt" (himachal pradesh and uttaranchal in the north + darjeeling and sikkim + possiblyt bhutan in the east.) is a very good bet. other hill stations in india include ooty and mt. abu. ladakh is possible if you decide to fly (i dont know exactly the motorable road opens to traffic - possibly from late april). from srinagar its about Rs. 3500 to leh. foreigners are charged 75$. http://indian-airlines.nic.in/scripts/index.asp
