Most Romantic Areas in...?

HI again. I'm wondering what are the most romantic places in any Indian city. Romantic can mean many things to different people, but I am referring to places where the conditions r perfect weather-wise/scenery-wise etc. and what is the best time to visit these places?

I would say viewing the Taj Mahal at Dawn from a hotel rooftop with a swing, Varanasi on the Ganges river at Sunset and Hussein Sagar Lake on the boardwalk benches in the Twilight.

Great idea for a thread Shelly. I think you'll find most Indiamikers a bit cagey when it comes to romance - certainly thinking about one of my old "love and romance" threads.

As for romance in India, I think it oftens depends on not just when and where you are but how your experience came together and also who else is around. The idea of the Taj at dawn would be good thinking not just about timing but also about the light as the sun rises and the fact that dawn should be the quieter time.

I could compare Ayer's Rock in this big country - every tourist gets there before dawn to watch the sun rise over Uluru. Sure it's magical - I loved it - but being surrounded by literally hundreds and hundreds of other tourists and the click click of cameras (and even the flash from those annoying people who don't know how to disable their flash), together with the air brakes of a parking 60-seater coach, well, all these just about ruin the whole experience.

For me in India or anywhere is romantic as long as I am with my wonderful wife, and if it's quiet, and if we're alone and if the light is good for a picture or if a wild animal pops up and accepts our presence, then it's all the more magical.

In two weeks I fly to UK, will visit Devon, the Scottish Highlands, Orkney and then go to Rome. Maybe we were looking for a little romance when we booked the trip!!!??!

What's hot and what's not.........

My beloved and I are partial to January trips....as it's definately not hot to be too hot.

Even though Rajasthan gets pretty chilly in winter, I loved the cold. Udaipur, with a room overlooking the lake is very romantic. Watching the sunset over the lake at Pushkar, sitting next to an open fire......very nice!

I also found the houseboats on the backwaters of Kerala wonderful. A little tricky working around the crew though.....

Dinner down by the ghats in Udaipur certainly sticks in my mind as a romantic place to be, like Rab says though it's down to your company!!

Most romantic places

For me that would have to be the Western Sahaydri hills during monsoon, sharing roasted corn with your partner, sunny afternoons in Delhi ( gardens at purnana quila) morning walks in sarsai and naggar near Manali; early morning canoe rides in the bird sanctuary at Kumarokom; lazing near the vembanad lake; and many more places which I shall add later

For me it was sitting on the boulders by the river at Lachung(north Sikkim) on a full moon night-the snow peaks shining in the moon light and the sound of the rushing water........Though temperature was near freezing, it was an awesome experience.

1. Watching the amazing colours of the sky at twilight from the Ridge at Shimla, with the lights of the town and surrounding areas slowly coming on and feeling the cold mountain air blowing in your face ! Wow !

2. A late evening winter mist slowly fading and reavealing one by one the shimmering lights of Doon valley, as viewed from Mall Road, Mussoorie.

The most simple as well as the most difficult subject 'romance'. For me there are just good memories with friends or some ex-girlfriend & just enjoying the sunrise or sunset somewhere in nature although some nice chai shops are just as well. By god's grace we're blessed with nature wherever we go throughout India so making/having memories isn't anything difficult. I find the nearby F.C. College hill romantic enough Enjoy!
