A lot of people in Moscow speak English, especially the young, although it may be rusty due to lack of practice. Older people often speak some German.

Russians tend not to try and rip you off, it's just that Moscow is very expensive. I trust that the prices on the menus are easy to understand

Not sure what kind of help you're looking for, but if you want somebody to speak English with, I suggest you head out to the university and find a student. They are usually eager to practice.

what kinda help

hi, i'm not russian but i live in eastern russia (around 10000 km east of moscow). what kinda help you need in moscow? if you need translators you can check with moscow times miscellanious pages, so their service may be rather expensive. if you don't mind company of young russian buddhists some of who are quite fluent in, contact moscow@mahamudra.ru with karma kagyu followers. they have a big flat in centre of moscow: 17/1 petrovsky boulevard flat #35 (you should dial this number before entering building or call in advance) metro tverskaya or pushkinskaya come out to rossiya cinema now turned into glittering macao casino and pass it, go straight.

good luck!
