Men who cry. Is it just in the movies?
Men who cry. Is it just in the movies?
Shahrukh cries a lot in Devdas. In fact, men cry a lot in Bollywood films, but they never do in Hollywood. Is this part of Indian culture in general? Is it more acceptable in India for men to cry? Just wondering.

Men & crying is for the most part an oxymoron most anywhere in the world. Kids cry, boys cry, women cry but I think if you are a healthly developed male both physically & mentally - its something that is very hard to do. Bollywood may try to appease different audience types by inserting the weepy male here & there.... but its something that I've never seen socially in everyday India.

OH that's only because indian men are , like women, colored people and mules and hosses, not quite equal to the great white Man, who conquered and subjugated everywhere in the world.
It is also conclusive proof that bollywood movies are not as good as hollywood films, and if any man that's never cried knows any better, he should keep away from bollywood films, or he'd be called a wus ,and could never go back. as they say "when you go bollywood you can never go hollywood again."

Nooooo....
most women I know cry because theier house is on fire, the dinosaur carried away their baby, their husband is a drunk wastrel that uses a club too much and and their boss tends to start talking about feminine body parts(or human reproduction related acts) when they enter the room.
(you chicks totally owe me one for this post.)

In other words CD, they want their house to stop burning, Dino to bring back the baby, their hubby to go to AA, and their boss to complement their intellectual ass-ets only ..... magic can happen with tears
.... come to think of it not a bad idea
.... okay here goes:

.....
my god look .... a first class ticket to India just slid under the door

I didn't want this thread to go this way. Of course I know about gender stereotyping and I don't want you all to argue with each other. I was just hoping that in India it was more acceptable for men to cry. I mean, there are so many things in India that have surprised me so I thought well....
Anyway I think that we should all cry now and then. I think we deserve it. Especially when we've been very bad to those we love. When I was a kid, I learned a song from a film called Free to Be... You and Me. It went, "It's all right to cry. Crying gets the sad out of you." (Yikes, I've become a preacher!)
Anyway, again, thanks for letting me know that Bollywood streteches reality. I'll know not to burst into tears when I see where we're staying on the Pahar Gang.

Oh wait... since I started writing my last reply you all had a lot of fun. Okay, stop crying... there, there...
