We met Kelvin Lane in Panjim last week [February 4].
He entertained us with tales of his 5 week trek on foot along the coast from Mumbai to Goa.
Did anyone meet him along the way?

It would be almost impossible to walk all the way along the actual coast, with all the river estuaries, headlands & rough terrain to negotiate.
Perhaps he walked the road nearest the coast,,,,,,,,,,,

He told us of swimming rivers and nearly being swept away, crossing volcanic lava plateaus in terrible heat, not eating much and carrying little - 2 kg. He mentioned no roads, just coastline and really rough land.

When I asked if he had a journal -web or otherwise, he said no - too busy walking and no photos - camera is not his style.

Last seen in Panjim town near the jungle gym in the municipal park.

He did ask us about our Leki trekking poles and gave us his e-mail address for forwarding info. I am loathe to just give it out, but can direct him here and ask him to reply to your request for help [though he has yet to answer my note from earlier this week]

By the way, he's 62.

We'll send him another e-mail, but we're not hopeful that he'll reply.

Man, that sounds like a really fun and exciting adventure, or at least on reflection, having completed, that's how I'd feel about it. Probably there'd be a lot of times when you didn't feel so good about it while you were in the midst of the trek. It would be great if you could coax him into writing about it.

Mumbai to goa walking humm . I would need to know from Kelvin the route he took and how many months he took to do it . Driving to goa the distance is 579.1km, King Circle (Mumbai) to Mandovi Bridge (Panaji).and on the map you would need to take at least 3 ferries unless you are a long distance ocean swimmer and have backup with electrolytes etc on the other site . How do you swim with your back pack /camping gear ?
The goan coast line is extremly difficult to navigate . I walked from calangute and walking on a steep cliff under fort aguada and it reached a point where it was impossible to continue as there were shere rock cut cliffs
If kelvin has found a route out from mumbai to goa!! I would really really like to know about it .
cheers

Last seen? Feb 4-5. We met him first at the iway internet cafe, one road back from the river in Panjim - he complained that someone had hacked into his prepaid minutes card and stolen his internet time. Later we saw him at the park. The next day we ran into him eating dinner at Venite [seemed out of character for him, but hey, the guy's gotta eat well sometime...]

Description? Tall, lanky, with salt and pepper hair in a pony tail. Last seen wearing a dark t-shirt and shorts and Teva sandals with an insole he cut from a plastic carpet.

He really did say he only carried 2 kg tied in a bag to a walking staff. [If a sadhu can do it, why not he?]
