I'm trying to list Indian manufacturers of various goods and products that have alternatives from international brands. For ex: Maruti is an Indian alternative to international brands such as Toyota, Honda, etc. This should make it easy for someone looking to buy Indian, but do not know where to start. Let me start:

Cars:
Maruti
Tata
Mahindra

Other vehicles:
Ashok Leyland

------
Computers:
HCL
Zenith

------
Travel:
Yatra
MakeMyTrip

------
Drinks:
Royal Challenge

Feel free to mention your own section - Clothes, Drinks, Phones, literally anything. I will update this post as the thread grows. Thanks!

On this forum, members can only amend their posts for a short time, after which that task would have to be done by one of the moderators.

To be honest, I don't think that a simple list of manufacturers, without including other information such as quality of product, would be of sufficient help to travellers to make it worthwhile, though if you do get a lot of responses, you could always ask.

Maruti is Japanese, which is why they have an "S" for Suzuki on the front. Granted, Maruti is probably one of their biggest outlets.

Leyland, once upon a time, was British. No idea now.

Tata is, indeed, Indian. Many of the "foreign" cars on sale here would have been manufactured in India, just as many of the Hondas on sale in UK would have been manufactured in Swindon.

But yes, what is the point?

Yes ! Like all else, I would also like to ask, what's the purpose ?

General Moors Make Cars in India, so do Ford & Toyota et all... so they also qualify as made in India products.

Do you mean 100% Swadeshi products ? If yes then I know one product which only Indian companies manufacture 'Lal Dant Manjan'

Limca, oops it comes from...

I like Ford pick up trucks (no I don't have one). The engine is from Mexico, the body from Canada, I believe the lights from Japan. I guess its Gandhian, referring to the comment about having a house with many windows so the ideas from many countries come through..

MTR products
rasam mix, bisi bele bath mix and load of similar types

Though not sure about the rational behind this exercise. It is not feasible to always use Indian products that too at a time where we live in with a whole generation's sole motive is to go amrika and earn in dolers.

the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Indian things is Khadi 100% swadeshi - and Gandhi topi and Nehru Jackets
Would be nice to see someone dressed in those.
