Hello everyone,
I'm trying to learn hindi. Is there anyone who would like to "try" to converse in hindi??? I am just learning and would like to talk to others who are also learning That's not to say our hindi speaking IM'ers can't join in. It might be a good laugh, when I use the wrong word or spelling (please forgive me if I do). I know I mess up a lot. So anyone interested??? |

Hi larki55:
- IM mein apka swagat hai. (Welcome to IM.) - If you would like there is a user here called guerik, she has already taken a few steps in learning Hindi. She may have a few recommendations of books etc for you. - There already existed a thread about Hindi but the user who stared it seems to have deleted it. Check with one of the mods. - Agar aur kuchch bhi possible nahin, toh mein aapki madat kar sakta hoon. Translation: If none else is possible, yours truly will try to help. (on IM) Thanks, Larka27 ![]()

Bookshop jaiye aur "teach yourself hindi" karidiye. Bahut accha kitaab hai aur is se me bahut sikhti ti. I'm also terrible at hindi generally so I'm sure someone will pick my sentences apart*, but I gave it a bash at least ![]() How have you been studying Hindi so far? *Please be nice if you do, it's been a long time between proper conversations. |

Guerik,
I am now using "Teach Yourself Hindi", the Professor at University of Washington sugested it. I like it. I also watch soaps on the TV and a lot of bollywood films. Sorry this is not in hindi, but I'm late for work, will converse later in hindi. Thanks for the reply larki55 |

meraa naam daniel hai. One can use the unicode 8 UTF hindi script for writing on IndiaMike or any e-mail on the web. It displays properly with IE 6 & above. Some glitches in display when using Firefox. इण्डियामाइक् पर हिन्दी भाषा देवनागरी लीपि में इस तरह से लिख सकते हैं। There is a site which does the conversion work for you..... just type the itrans input text and submit it. The site will give you the devanaagarii version. It was in a thread which I had participated. I'll have to search for it...

You have soaps in Hindi? Lucky you!
I have to depend on getting DVDs from the local grocery, but I'm always renting movies that I don't care enough about to pay attention to what they're saying. I know a lot of Hindi lyrics by heart but they're not that useful in general conversation... I'm sure if I ever have an Indian boyfriend he'll be suitably impressed by my cheesy statements though! ![]() |

I'm definitely missing the savvy - I added in the Indic scripts on my computer the other day, and it kept changing back to Hindi whenever I locked my PC (thus stopping me from entering my password, which is english).
3 calls to (very patient) tech support later I removed them again - it might make my assignments a little easier but it made my workday impossible! |

I think you will need Windows 2000 & above, also Internet Expl v 6 & above. This link has the free download software & fonts for itrans 2003 software which generates these fonts in utf 8 code |
