Learning Hindi / Hindi Language Schools

Chaia - I too want a good Hindi language school but reading some reports on Landour was not too sure if that was the place for me. Still I wrote them an email about what courses they have on offer - no reply as yet! No language schools in Manali. I've been learning for a few years and have only come across one GOOD teacher in varanasi. I don't want to return there. But for those who are asking. So think I'll just head for Mussoorie and check it out unless I hear from someone in the meantime. KAJAL




Regarding Binit - in Varanasi - he is a language expert and speaks good English, Russian and other European languages but not sure which. Good for a mixed group.

I'm looking for a place where I can take hindi classes. I'm not really interested in a private tutor, I rather have more people. I've learned that it helps to have a small group witht he learning, you get the repetition even if you don't think you need it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Something in the gurgaon area would be preferable.

Absolutely. Even if it isn't in a
and it is face to face individual, if the teacher uses only his/her native language and doesn't translate, it is a real communication and reflects real life, while the teacher sneakily slides in all that you need to grasp the vocab, construction and everything else needed.

It was exactly what I searched for but sadly never found in India for hindi. Only parot style teaching with translation akin to learning latin 100yrs ago in the UK.

No offence to other teachers out there!

I completely agree....I've bene sucessful in classes. I've picked up some portuguese and italian that way. Its just a bit frustrating that everything is a tutor.

First thing I checked was for a berlitz institute, but there are none in India. I would have guessed that as international as they are they would've placed one in the country all ready.

I'm hoping something comes up, but I'm slowly losing hope and might have to resign myself to a tutor.

The trick is to find a teacher that knows and is willing to do the hard work of that style. That is everything. I honor the memory of the late VG Kale, pandit extraordinary in Marathi..

Probably harder to find someone that knows the style, yes, but for a teacher, it's actually less time consuming than preparing a traditional class, since it's primarily conversation and all new vocab and so on is introduced via communication, and then written on a board after it has been used. A teacher with this method, and say an excellent picture book can conduct a lesson on almost any topic, any point of grammar without preparation no probs!

Good luck with your search and if you DO find a good teacher, share the knowledge!

I'll let you know what I find... I'm still hoping for some sort of class, but if not I'll settle for a tutor. I want to learn this language as quickly as possible so I don't want to wait too long...

Just a stray thought that someone at the Kendriya Hindi Sanstha in Delhi might know of someone talented, many call but few are called..

Hi all.
To introduce myself, I am 24, american woman living in south delhi, working in development. Hindi is really important in the work i do, so I am actively pursuing the language. (I am able to write, and sound out words now, so now i really want to focus on vocabulary and speaking skills.)
i actually had a great hindi tutor who is leaving for the states this week, so I need to find someone new. i too was looking for a class, but the only thing i have seen is the "hindi guru" or something like that, which i was not particularly interested in.
SO...maybe all of those of us who are interested in group learning could create our own class? Find a tutor then host classes at our respective homes? Anybody interested in the idea?

Sounds like a good idea... count me... sounds like you are a bit further ahead than where I'm at. But I'll try to catch up... been trying to learn from a book until I found a class or something better....

There is a thread "Hindi Teacher in Gurgaon" in the "Moving to Delhi" forum.
A few teachers gave their contact info, so you can look there for Hindi clases.
The company I will be working for (IF I get the visa and IF I can pay for the ticket ) will give Hindi lessons once a week, but I'll certainly like to be in class with you IMikers

I've found a hindi language institute:

www.hindiguru.org. I am not sure if I'll be able to join any time soon because it seems all the classes starting in the short term are during the day when I'm working. I was a bit discourage by the prize, but once I did the math it seems it is cheaper than a private tutor by the hour.

Have you found anything? It is still probably cheaper just to higher a tutor and split it among ourselves.
