Hmmm...Id listen to oldhippie

But then, if you still insist, why not go for a solid Rampuri???

Example of uses of a Rampuri (read second news item):http://www.expressindia.com/ie/daily.../11250084.html

Hehe, I never said I wouldn't listen to him, that's why I asked the question. I just found the 'stupid American' comment selfserving and unnecessary.

I am looking forward to buying a quality Indian knife as stated above, although the 'Rampuri' is a bit much at 8-10", 4" is fine for a knife.

People with short fuses should avoid carrying weapons of any kind.

Knives are not just for self defense.
I once had to cut a rope fast in a dangerous situation. My razor sharp pocket clip Gerber EZ-out did the job just fine.

A good knife is a very handy tool, and has a thousand uses.I work as a builder and feel undressed without one.Countless times the question is asked ,"anybody got a knife ?) A weapon ,no ,tool yes.It needs to be small anough to put in a pocket and sharp.Collecting antique weapons is another matter. For these you look for workmanship & beauty and there are many of these to be found in India.

Although no permission was needed . . . .I thought we could make fun of you?
You've been given enuff info to make your choices. Simply keep in mind that you will be in a country vastly different than Texas, although you haven't given us any info on where or what your trip is about.

aha! The faint texas/texan jibe? no? :-)

No offense to both. I was half expecting this thread to go down into a slanging match. But it seems, I won't be rewarded.

As someone who also gets into one, I'm disappointed that people are showing relatively cool, albeit a little frigid attitude towards each other. :-) :-)

Actually, from other threads, MeCasa has given us quite a bit of information about his plans which involve motorcycle touring, camping, and trekking. That is why I assumed a multi-tool knife that can be worn in a belt pouch would be useful -- having a few simple tools like pliers and screwdrivers, can-opener as well as a useful knife-blade or two that you can get at without unpacking your bike. The picture is of my 10 year old Gerber; the link is to one of their current models.

....and let's stick to the topic, please.
