Just got back from India

Hi Peeps,

Arrived back in to London late last night after spending 3 fabulous weeks in India.

Although I fell ill for 2 of these days I really miss it.....

Will I ever be able to adapt to London life again, I'm 25 and although I am happy with life and work here in London I can't stop thinking about going back to India...

It was my first trip to India and after visiting the following places:

delhi - haridwar - rishikesh - delhi - mathura - vrindban - agra - jaipur - udaipur - ahmadabad - tarapur - porbandar - dwarka - bet dwarka - mumbai

I just want to get back there ASAP - Is this normal? Does anyone feel this way when they get back? Is this just a phase?

All comments will be most welcome....:-)

Next month I'm going back for my Fourth trip in six years. In eight months we'll move permanently to South India.

Living is just a phase.

I hear you, the same thing happened to me when I got back the first time, I adore my life in Montreal, but India was so... (after 4 years, I still can't find the right word), I felt a void being back home, almost as if I was depressed. I felt almost ashame of this new obsession until I found IndiaMike. Start preparing for you next trip, and everything will be fine...

PS I should be in India at the beginning of March, I just can't wait.

One year after...

I guess it's the same for everyone...
I went to India last year thinking : It will be done, it will stop haunting me, then I'll move on to something else in my life...

I was wrong..

As months go by, the need to go back grows on me although I know after a few weeks there I'll want to come back home.

What a beautiful but strange feeling...
Ahhh India..

Perhaps for you, the call is stronger..

In 1979 I was sick in India for 3 month. Very sick. Sometimes drinking water from oil cans. I lost 10 kg weight. As soon as I got back I had in my back mind: If it doesnot work out here (back at home) I will go again.
but........... western life got me by the balls and I tried so hard to fit in society. When I really broke down in 2000 I started to think of India again, but I postponed because of my memories of being that sick I almost died. Januari 2005 I finally took off after a brake of 26 years. Late 2005 I went for a second time. Now I praise the bottles of mineral water which makes life for me in India so smooth these days.
India...............I love it so much, for a thousand different reasons.

"Is this just a phase?" you asked. Yes it is. So far it's lasted 23 years for me; five trips to India sprinkled throughout them. Powerful place, India . . .

it's dangerous to journey to india for these reasons mentioned. i too feel a low level of "depression" living here in the "american dream". it feels a lonely place, imo. however, there is the issue of comforts that i start to miss when i am in india, but they don't surface until i know that i am going home, to the states.

It definitely gets in your blood, I have been every year since '92. I cannot go this year and I am suffering withdrawal symtoms. I visit IM daily and devour any news about India. Photos and video help but do not quiet do it.
The only cure is to be there.

Smile

You are so right, I know the feeling. We are leaving two weeks from today for our 4th trip in the last 3 years. There is something about India that calls you back; whether it is the beauty, the history, the people or the food, I don't know. We are in our early sixties and this year broke down and got a 10 year visa so we could be ready to go whenever we can get reasonable airfare, only having to take care to avoid the hottest times.

The only other place we have visited that we continue to visit frequently is London where we will be heading in April. Interestingly we favorite restaurants in London that are also Indian.

great to hear that you made it, and want to go back.
i read a few of your posts before you went and you seemed quite nervous - did any of the things you worried about happen?

Hi there,

Glad you liked it out here and hope you get a longer stay out here next time!!! Take care and hope you get a good airfare to get here too.

BTW, the same thing happens to me when I get back from London everytime!!! HAHAHA!!! I have been going there every year since 1994 but in the last two years I have not been able to do so and I am really waiting to get there again. London is only a base from where I travel all over the UK and to places in Europe too but it does hold a special place in my heart for all the good things there like the art, architecture and some travel website friends I have there. So I guess it is a similar feeling with a place you want to get back to and I am sure you will do so soon.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Returning from India

I was in India for 3 weeks in April, returning on a Saturday - to give myself time to recover, as I thought at the time. On Monday I was supposed to return to work - after half an hour I couldn't take it, went home and stayed in bed looking at my pictures of India. On Tuesday I made another attempt, stayed in the office a bit longer - and went home again. On Wednesday, I finally had to face real life. Since I still wasn't coping all that well, so after just two weeks I went out and bought a ticket to Delhi for October - with absolutely no idea of where exactly I wanted to go or what I wanted to do whenever I got wheverever I was going. In the end I went to Ladakh and spent a lot of time in Delhi - I loved it!! And still in January, if it's not Indian, India, or Hindi - I'm not really all that interested.....
In short, you're not alone with this reaction. Actually, it's rather fun.

I just can't move there. Well, maybe I could. But the reason why I get this feeling is because I was so aloof and in a different room every 2nd night. Plus I didn't have my beautiful laptop . If work positions me there, I will not complain ONE bit. I'll have a higher chance of landing an Indian girl!

feel the same for himalayas

I live in India and get a similar feeling after returning from himalayas every year.. So, since last 11 years I go to himalayas every year atleast once.

And the worse part, I start planning and dreaming for my next trip as soon as I am back.

I have been trying but still havent managed to a find a job close to himalayas.. So, sitting in bangalore I have started a forum for himalayan lovers on yahoo. This gives the vicarious feeling of having himalayas in my life..
