Question Is The Monsoon Coming?

After traveled for almost 3 months in India, and after the extreme heat in the south, we dicided to come to Darjeeling to find a place to cool off. We've been here for 2 days and it just seems as though the rain won't stop. Is the monsoon really early this year??? We had planned to do some trekking in Sikkim and then take a bus to Kathmandu, but are now unsure. Our other alternative is to head for the north-west (Rishikesh, Dharamsala, Kashmir...).

HELP! What should we do?what should we do?

Thanks

Monsoons start from East and you are in the eastern part of India..so..for that region the Monsoon has started. it would gradually move to west and will hit Delhi and UP by mid July.
so you have two options:
1. stay there and wait for the monsoon to go over
2. Move south or move west faster than the monsoon to catch few days to trek maybe in Uttranchal or Himachal.
Upper Himachal would be safe till early August.

It's only just started here. I keep my bedroom around 28C and only the last few nights the AC has been running most of the night with outside temperatures over 30. Daytime temperatures 35, 36, 37 ---it's going to get a lot hotter yet

Question

Thank u all for answering so quickly!

I'm actually not sure about what we'll do

We're thinking about going to Sikkim, because a lot of people told usthe weather is better there, and its not raining all the time, so we'll take our chances.

We are planning to go to Nepal too, but we r not sure anymore...

So many choices!

I spent the last two Mays in Chennai Nick. Couldn't handle a third on the run. They reckon its the hottest month there. This time thankfully I'm in the Lake District in the UK. Endless sweating, waking up dehydrated (I never had AC), power cuts...

@ jenky : Weather this year has certainly been pretty rough and unexpected, But I will say that in northern part of the sub continent its been pretty sudden this year. Weather touching 40C during day and then in evening there's a small squall or light shower and all of sudden minimum goes to 20'sC.

ColinT: Thank goodness I have AC

I've been in Chennai or Kerala at several different times of year, but I have yet to experience either the hottest or the wettest.

Oh well, here goes!
