Introduction

I have been to India before, but this time I'm going for the whole summer.

I am doing idiotic things to make my next trip possible: I am buying the ticket on a credit card I can't pay back for 5 months and I am using student loan money to help fund the living expenses. I'm going to start negotiating my vacation time in February and will quit my p/t job if the results aren't favourable.

Thanks to my boyfriend, I won't have hotel bills but I'll be stuck in a sea village, so stay tuned for how I'll orchestrate my great escape from the rural South to Mumbai (the place my boyfriend hates with a passion) to further my Bollywood agenda.

I'm glad to be here.

Well Samosa, welcome to the family; have to say though that by your post it is not the best programme that I have seen for getting to India but one never knows how these things unfold. Really hope that you have a back up plan for your finances. Some things can turn out to be really miserable but if you can wing it then we shall enjoy hearing from you and if not we can join you for a coffee to try to cheer you up.

That's what families do.

I took out a bank loan for my first trip: £2,000 for a coulpe of weeks in expensive hotels.

My next trip wasn't easy to afford either, but I spent it in an Indian family house, so it wasn't too bad.

After that, I think the salary review people must have decided, never mind my performance, they had to get me to India every year ---and were kind to me as a result!

Then came the day they decided that, although I didn't know it then, I ought to move here. So the redundancy happened. Thanks Guys! Hated you at the time; love you for it now
