internet access in india?

Hi everybody,
we are currently travelling through southern India by tandem. We started in Mumbai and made it to Ratnakiri so far.
During the FIFA soccer world cup in June / July we want to stop for a while and watch as many matches as we can.

During these 6 to 8 weeks (and maybe, on tour from now to October – then from Hotel rooms) , we would like to have any internet access. We have a small, old notebook with network & modem cards.
What are the opportunities in India? Are there cheap & good internet by call providers? Are there any prepaid options? Are there any flatrate options?
Are there any other ways to connect (e.g. ADSL) and where could we find the equipment to connect via network (preferably not too heavy stuff – you know, we are travelling by bike...)?
Of course, any options that have a short term contract (some weeks or months) are preferred.

We are looking forward to any suggestions,

Wow! Both of you must be having a great time in cycling through scenic area of Konkan. If you can, please try to post your experiance, pics, etc...

About the internet access, check the services provided by Reliance here. There are others also, you do a bit of googling to find out more...
