in one such driving test... after the respective 'testee' completed the round-the-park routine...
the examiner very quietly enquired of her:
"madame - do you know there is a 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear?"

I can't believe anyone would want to drive in India if there were another option available, or even if there weren't.

Agreed Nick - if you are a resident, then there's probably a need to learn /obtain a licence to drive, but as a visitor to the country, I'd just rely on flagging down a driver & car to go from A=>B=>A.

Jasmin, unless you're there for a long term stay, then I'd definitely recommend public transport or get someone to drive you around.

I used to drive in India, 4 & 2 wheels. Now I contribute to employment in India and avoid an ulcer..
