Indian Quirks
Indian Quirks
Wondering if anyone can enlighten me on Indian behaviour or idiosyncrasies.
For example, I noticed that Indians like to not have their lips touch their drinking bottle. First I found this a bit odd and then I was told this was for hygenic reasons. (Btw is this for all bottles - water, beer, etc?)
Are there any others?

That's a typical S.Indian habit!Unlike the head wobble this habit is inculcated since childhood for a variety of reasons.

Every India visitor asks this question at some time ir the other. Becki you got the right answer. This is not confined to southern India alnoe, even in north it is done. No, you don;t drink fizzy drinks out of the bottle that way, try doing it yourself and you will know why
In an environment where people have to share a water tumbler;- it makes sense!

This applies mostly for water bottles. A bit of unlearning takes place once the beer starts flowing...

The quirks depend on which part of india you are in .. but some are more common than others.. e.g. using one hand to eat and keep other hand free to serve, if accidentally touch money by feet then apologize to goddess "lakshmi" by touching that money to your head, use both hands to give or take anything and so on and so forth.
You will learn a lot more once you are in india and dealing with people here. Its hard to put everything into words.
