Why is it, that if a female says this, it is liberating- and when I say it, it becomes chauvinistic?

Rhetorical question; like Pontius Pilate, I am not waiting for an answer

I didn't say that - go ahead and hate housework, liberate yourself.....

Personally I think its only worthwhile if you're being paid for it AND I think its good to provide as much employment as you can afford. My comments regarding the homestay students were more in relation to the difference between the boys and girls - and also its different to say 'I know how to do it or am happy to learn and am prepared to pitch in as part of the family but it doesn't mean I enjoy it' and 'I have no idea and no intention of doing this and as a man should not be asked to do it' (which is sometimes what I get when I say
your turn to do the dishes tonight.

I think, no matter how many servants you have, kids should know how to clean and cook a basic meal, wash stuff etc ...

On the other hand you can't live in filth and sadly, a cleaner here costs about an average Indian weekly wage per hour - well maybe not that much, but $15/hour.. so my (and my partner's) liberation is only in my dreams!

Wow, that's pretty good compared to where I am; $25/hour would be among the better deals!

Have to clarify here that I have cleaned toilet bowls with toothbrushes at sea, long ago, so I am well qualified for all kinds of housework, except cooking.

(Not in use toothbrushes, though once we used the Captains toothbrush to clean his own toilet bowl, and got caught because it was wet the next time he used it... but that's another painful story)

Reminds me of that urban myth about the burglars, the toothbrushes which were seemingly undisturbed by the burglars and the undeveloped film in the camera which when developed had photos of the burglars with the toothbrushes where no toothbrush should be..... eeewwwwww. Motto - if you're ever burgled, throw out your toothbrush and if you're at sea with the Captain keep your toothbrush under lock and key
