Indian Holidays in May/June I was recently told by an Indian friend that I would have a hard time getting train tickets and hotel accomodations in May & June due to many Indians going on holiday at this time and that as a result I better book everything now rather than play it by ear. Is this true? ![]()

True, In April/May (not so in June though), and in late Oct (early Nov), schools colleges in India have holidays, and people travel in hordes. Sometimes it's impossible to find a ticket even on a waitlist. If you think you like travelling by Railway, Dec-March is a great time.

destinations basically we'll be in: Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh from May 26th to June 26th. Will the tourist quota on the trains help us? do you have experience with it? ![]()

Being Indian, I've never used the tourist quota. You should book in advance for your rail journeys in U.P., W.B. and the Delhi-Shimla route in H.P. Better to book your hotel at Shimla too. (Assuming you are visiting Shimla). This will be off-season for Rajasthan, as it will be extermely hot, so accomodation will not be a problem here.
