Indian astrologers - what do they know?

As I walked along Main Bazar in Old Delhi on my last visit, I was accosted (as happens) by an astrologer or fortune teller. He said to me "You are searching for something which you haven't found...", which was true, I was trying to find one of those boiler elements although I would imagine, that aside, that a lot of westerners travel to India because they're kind of lost or are looking for a new direction.

Either way, he was right. but I didn't indulge him at the time (note to self: do it next time).

So: any experiences with Indian astrologers?

Send a message via MSN to indiadreamn
you should have said yes then asked him if he knew where you could find the boiler element!

Handreaders are likely to provide more acurate info, from the two fortune tellers I met one charged me more then I could afford , the second one did not charge me anything and provided scary detailed info about an episode of my life.

The he warned about a certain person , (named him) I have too admit he was right on the spot.

The moral of the story is: if the fortune teller costs you more than you can afford , he is probarly not a good one , otherwise he would have known what to charge.

We were in Haridwar when an /shop keeper/astrologer offered a free reading (after we bargained hard for a stone necklace--apparently we paid too much or we wouldn't have received this bonus!). It was accurate enough--even to dates of events-- to totaly creep us out! Never again.

Indian astorology is more of an art than science, like managment, all MBA's don't make good managers, but some excel in it, so do astroogers, some astologers are perfect and some are not good.

I hear its supoced to be a more acurate system than the westerns astollogy, I dont know exactly why though, might be something with how the planets and constalations moved through the centuarys, that make western astrology a bit incorect...

Anyhow I did go to a western guy at the fleemarket once, he said pretty nice stuff, how I wanted to do so many things and I should do that, not to force myself in to one profesion but to give it time etc... Quite right on even though not so Impressive, no "Magic" so to say...

this one is not from India...

this year I had been to myanmar,it was the 11th of february,I stayed in Monywa,I was invited to visit a fortune teller lady at at a big buddhist temple,
the phrophecy was something like: this year I will work as a leader(now i ll start to work as a headchief),I ll earn more money than last year(which is true!!),this year I m going to marry(it s looking a bit like this!!)
the girl will have the same age as I am(still have to ask her..)
she will come from a poor family background(well it looks like..)
very strange and very crazy....

the crazy thing about these fortunetelling is...

if you really really believe ....somehow it will happen

another good thing is: at my new job we have a married couple from Sri Lanka
working at my new place
it s very nice to go to work and say namaste to somebody...
talking about Indian and Sri Lankan food
talking about about how nice it is to eat with your fingers instead of using forks, knives and spoons......
this makes me feel a bit like being "at home"

Astrology in India comes in various forms - face reading; palm reading; predictions based merely on your date, day and time of birth; and reading of birth chart(called "Patrika" in the local language). Some astrologers excel in their trade, some are phony.

I've had experiences with the third and fourth kind of astrology and most of the predictions have come true, not all.

HINDU aSROLOGY IS a fascinating art/science, and the good ones certainly know alot and it is truly a incribible discilpine, and it is very impoortant in INDIA.. ... However, from my experince and observations, the ASTROLGERS found on the streets chasing tourists with there little "one -liners" practice/know a differnt art..HOW to make money ! not all, of course, but many...IF you want your chart done or are intersted in this experince, seek a reputable person..!

Had you listened to the fortune teller a little longer, he may have told you about it
