Question Indiaholics needed for advice

Hey there!
I'm off on a 3-5 month (depending on when my money runs out) journey around the subcontinent from end-Jan. This is my first trip to India.
my plan:

Dehli - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Udaipur - Jaipur - Agra - Varanasi - Darjeeling - Jaldhapara park - Kolkata - Puri - Chennai - Pondicherry - Trivandrum - Kerala - Goa - Mumbai - Amritsar - Dharamsala - Manali - Shimla - Dehli.

All by train. I'm thinking sleeper class, with an occasional AC.
I'll be travelling with my girlfriend until Kolkata (thus the strange loop around Rajhastan early on) and solo after that.

Any comments on my route? Things or places to avoid? Should I get an Indrail pass?

No, it will restrict you too much and you will still need to make reservations as you go along, getting the reservations is the hard part, not getting the tickets.

Is an Indrail pass worth the money?

The following 2 threads will be useful if you're trying to save money in India, you have some long journeys ahead, if you can get to know about the 'break of journey' rules, you will be able to save quite a bit on the fares.

Train fares thread.

Just buy a blanket in Delhi, it will help in Rajasthan where it can be a little chilly in the winter, but by the time you leave Rajasthan you will probibly just give the blanket away.
