No problem - I hope they go to India enthusiasts.
There is one book in particular that I would like to recommend: INTO INDIA - An Introduction To India And Its Peoples It is a book that I first borrowed from a friend, and then finally bought my own copy. I must have read it at least five times. It explains a lot of the background to what the traveller will meet and experience in India, but does it in a way that is both highly readable and entertaining. If there was one book that has 'opened up' India on my, to date, 7 trips to India and about 19 months exploring it, then this is it. I would recommend anyone to get it out from the library - you won't be disappointed. By the way - if anyone is wondering why I am selling these books, its because I am 'selling up' most of my possessions, and then my house, prior to some extended travelling before I get too old ! I am doing the same (is it a mid-life crisis thing? )I've just put out my own 'For Sale' signs on my house attempting to cut out the estate agents! Maybe see you in India later this year or next? Good luck on the book sale. Howie |

Well, you could call it a mid-life crisis if you like, or just a practical decision. Some of the best things I've ever done in my life have been Overland trips - where a group of people drive in a truck though wild places, camping as they go. I love travelling by myself as well, of course, but its difficult to get to some of the places an overland truck can get to, on your own. That kind of travel is still OK now, but in my 60's it may be out of the question, so its a case of 'now or never'. I want to go through Central Asia, and Africa too. What else - I want to do some sailing on a tall ship through the Pacific. Better squeeze that in now, too, while I still can. Other things too, then back to India, I hope, for some projects I've had in mind for a while. Some voluntary work lined up, too. It seems crazy to let your life go by without getting the best out of it. I've heard sooooooooooooooo many stories of people who spend all their life saving up for retirement, and when it comes, they die a month or two later. Some people don't even make it to retirement - what good is that ?! OK, it might all go 'belly up' and I end up as a 60 year old tramp with no money, but hey, at least I will be a happy and well-travelled tramp! Tim in Ireland. |

My sentiments exactly!
I could carry on in my comfortable job until I retire surfing IM for a few hours daily whilst supposedly working - No thank you ! What a waste of a life! (apart from the IM surfing! ) I intend enjoying myself while I'm able and spending as many years as I can doing exactly what I want to do! Both my maternal Grandparents died on reaching retirement age. Apparently, (I was too young to remember!) my Grandmother was so excited to receive her free bus pass at 60 and planned lots of excursions. She died before using it once! The atavar pic was taken in Delhi in 1976! Howie |
