Whats with this surdy smoking business ?? yes it is unpolite for you to smoke in front of a sikh especially in punjab..wherein in metropolitan cities even sardarji's are smoking which is understood since they are different in lots of areas , they dont even know how to speak in punjabi to speak of one.

And where women smoking is concerned, irrespective how much "western" approach we have towards life these days (thanks to, T/V, Bolloywood)if they(women) are smoking its definitely frowned upon and the woman is also labelled as "LOOSE" by majority of people in north india..not sure of south.... err swaying away from the topic.

I do i understand what women think when they smoke or alteast i do little bit ....but other people don't in our country..its like what you people perceive of my ID and what i think of it.

and for the people who want to smoke in public come to new delhi hehe

I was once at a display of some Sikhs doing a dance with swords and things and some one was smoking in the crowd and the leader asked them to stop.
We were all outside and it seemed strange, the offender did stop tho. This was in Bristol UK.

WOW some of these "POLITENESS RULES" are really wild..and illogical if you ask me..(not touching the rIM wow, i wonder whats the cause..im sure there is no logic in it, is there ? on a serious note im intrigued )

Well sardar's are very passionate people, and if they see something which is a SIN like smoking a cigarette its considered as impolite no matter where you are...the fact is that one noble man GURU GOBIND SINGH JI once woke up in the morning and asked himself..why do people smoke? i should inform my warriors that no-one will smoke from now onwards and bam here we are 2008. No smoking...NO LOGIC, Superstition.. BIG DENIAL this country is.

Brb lunchtime.

lil quiet time [!] - and i hope for your sake - you get the logic!

hint: same 'logic' as opening your shoes before entering a home.
makes sense? no? try a lil more quiet time.

and doode - gotta admit - you've begun to sound a tad ludicrous... [yup there's online dictionary - go look up the word ]

Still waiting for a more comprehensive reply!

Okay on a more light hearted note; this custom of not touching the rim of the glass makes for some funny drinking style while consuming beer in a local liquor shop or drinking cold drink from the bottle.

Okay got the hint;now on topic. Among Punjabi's both Hindus and Sikhs it is a polite custom to touch the feet of elders while greeting and utter "paeree pauna"

@Gamestotravel >> Thanks for the insight, I learned something buddy..Life is all about learning different cultures isnt it ?

@BRUSH TEA >> Opening my shoes before entering a house..WoW you have made me think..ooo im really thinking "QUIETLY" what could be the reason...hmmm how about because we dont want to bring the outside dirt in the house ? LOL

and next time how about reading my whole edited message ??

I wont have to use BIG WORDS HERE but if i have to say something politely this is it, KRIPYA CHUPI SAABIT KAREIN and PM if you want to go personal. Ladies is genetleman this one is an example of "Go home and do it again"

All i was trying to do is UNDERSTAND the sentiments behind some of these gestures ( Dont you want to know why we are doing what we are doing ?)...and its mere perception that's what counts in these situation and NO LOGIC whatsoever. FREE COUNTRY ? Bollocks... i rest my case, a rebel is always a rebel.
