Unless you have problems with iOS, I don't think the competition is upto much at all - especially considering they can't seem to get close to matching Apple's RRP. Personally, I'd much rather have a Macbook Air 11", but then they're relatively expensive compared to the base-line iPad's (but way more functional...)

The iPad is a lot of fun to use and I can really see the appeal, but they don't do much more than a second hand Netbook does (for me, anyway) and cost four times the price. iOS and Android (so most smartphones and tablets) represent a digression for me - in other words a move away from the freedom of Windows/OSX/Linux to 'closed' systems that are centrally controlled.

Two different market, two different segments. All systems are closed to non-kernel developers; rest is tinkering at the edges.

Not true. The New Ipad is invariably cheaper in US, followed by HongKong/Singapore and then it is variable. Definitely, UK would be cheaper than India for all Apple products.

Also, check out the network issues. In the US there were two for the Ipad2 & it had to be a careful choice..

That is because AT&T version is GSM based, and Verizon version is CDMA based.

Precisely, no card slot for one and hard wired for the other. Apple does a great job and always has of making precise, effective & usually non-hackable equipment..
