Even with the housing market in the UK having a little hick up i would still say it's advisable to keep one toe in it ,but that is being sensible and boring ,maybe ,letting ?

Yep... that's my regret, that I sold up.

And I am one of the lucky ones that, visa-wise, can stay in India for the foreseeable future.

We are quite serious this time, we have just had our house valued and have made approx 35k so want to sell up and take 10k for 5 years, it is quite possible to live for that long on 10k with a few jobs in between when we find somewhere we want to settle for a while.

Somedays we just think...there must be something better to life, we ain't got it bad and our country is a hell of a lot better than others....BUT....Have we experianced life ?

I don't want to be on my death bed regreting being normal !!!
Can you take your equity out for the quick cash, but then rent it out to someone as your "monthly income?" IMO, it's a better idea than selling--especially if you can get your family or a friendly neighbor to help out keeping an eye on things if you even pay them a helpers fee.

Just an idea.

Oh, and now I'm down to 17 days. The hubby has already left. Was blown away by everything the first day (as anyone would expect), but is now getting a more positive attitude. We may even have found an apartment already. Can't wait to get there!

Yeah we have an oppertunity to rent it to my husbands mother. Just the worry of her not leaving when we return home - only joking !!!

I'm not sure.... one day I think DO IT, then I get sensible and start thinking about morgages, jobs etc

If I followed my heart I certainly wouldn't be sat here discussing it !

17 days to go eh ! You lucky thing !

Maybe you can put her in the attic if she doesn't want to leave! Hehe. There's the fine line of following a dream and being reckless with your lives (what to do after the 5 yrs for example). It is a big decision. Gook luck with it if you decide to follow thru! Your friends will be so envious!!!

Overseas Citizen of India card... very useful- can work, stay for as long one wishes, and even own property, although I'm not sure why anyone would ever want to own anything!

But you have to have immediate family that was or is Indian citizen.

Allright Nick, it seems like i'm going to change my travel plans, and I actually might just be coming to India sooner than I thought. Because of some timing issues, I now might be there from the end of May 'till mid-June. So I guess I might just be living up to my name

Do you happen to know anyone at the Fire Department of Hyd?

Phew,yes!

I haven't been to Andrha yet, but when I had Telegu friends just down the road they seemed to think that Chennai made a nice, cool change for them!
