OK, will look into it when I get to Europe on holiday in a couple of months. Thanks and sorry for the OT post.

More apologies for OT post.
Folegandros is a delightful island, however access only by sea, on my first attempt to land there stood awaiting the F/B to dock, no access.
Next time OK.
If no current you can always get a windmill.
Sorry about the cuts in Crete.
How is the tourist season there, and boat schedules

Nill illigitimi carborundum As usual Tamilnadu electricity department and the politicians are promising that by June 2012, the power ciris will end. Hope it improves.
I was in Thanjavur recently and the total hours of power cut is 12 hours. I was in a guest house with power back up facility and thankfully escaped the wrath. Really folks out of chennai are suffering

Lord, Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they pissed me off.
The new rates apply as of today. The slabs were in the newspaper yesterday or the day before, and can also be found (PDF) on this page.
Shock horror, up to today, the Tamil Nadu Government has been paying as much as third of my electricity bills in subsidies. A month ago (this post) I was under the impression that this would be entirely withdrawn for those of us whose consumption is fairly high (eg much use of AC machines) resulting in our bills being more-than doubled.

I guess we will be able to see the bad news, as it affects us, in a few days. Today there was a power cut in parts of the centre of my hometown. Most of the affected shops were closed, on thei doors a handwritten paper "closed due to power failure". Without current most of them can't even open their doors, let alone use a cash desk. People were walking around with a smile on their faces, feeling like in a special adventure.
Power cuts are rare, but when they happen, the whole system breaks down, leaving complete chaos (depending on the location).

Astypalaia or Syme is what I have my eyes for nearly three decades; since the early '80s. The bounties of the sea by the dockside, are fresh and delicious.

During summers we have a 2 hour power cut, 1 hr in the morning, 1 hr in the evening. It is different for different parts of Mumbai.
Till now we do not have power cuts. Rural parts of Maharashtra have power cuts of around 4-8 hours in a day.

Traipsing around Madhya Pradesh three years ago btw, in parts there they have times of the year where water is rationed. The taps just don't run every other day or so. I think literally sometimes just once every three days. (It seriously pays in these parts to in each hotel, besides indeed enquiring about the power cuts situation which in fact it is wise to do pretty much anywhere in the country nowadays, ask them about the water supply, and fill up your bathroom's buckets accordingly or ask for a few extra, or keep some full for good measure anyway. And I'm sure it will be no news to those in the know, but thought I'd mention it.)
All of this of course at some 40C's+, hence those water cuts. How or what the poor there who can't afford bottled or treated water are supposed to drink or cook in let alone healthily, do not ask me.
It must be so in other parts of India. I've had it so in Coorg; though was told here it's more like if you don't socialize with or pay the right local politicos, your water supply may not be so swell.
