Hindi translation

who can help me? how can you translate "foreign country" into hindi? I need it for a bet, but i can't find the translation.

......you may call it "videsh" or "doosra desh" (desh = country; doosra = another)..

...."pardes or pardesh" is another term.......means exactly "foreign country"

you can just say "Foreign"...every one will know.

Or just a 'bahar' is also enough in very colloquila usage.

Its said that in the olden days, when air travel was a rarity, a foreigner used to be referred to as someone who has come "Saat Samundar Paar". The literal meaning of this is "Across seven seas". A foreigner was considered as someone who crossed the seven seas of the globe to reach India, irrespective of where he/she may have come from!

The term was pretty common in Bollywood; and the 1992 movie "Vishwatma" has a catchy song which goes "Saat Samundar Paar main tere peeche peeche aa gayee..", meaning, "I've followed you across seven seas..", when the heroine who sings this has just travelled from India to Kenya !
