hindi translation please

Hi,

Just hoping for some Hindi clarification... I really hope these words aren't offensive. If they are I am sorry. I was taught them, but I want to make sure they are ok, as I'm not sure I trust the person who taught me!

What does beyf koff mean (phonetic spelling)? I think it means 'stupid'? In what context?

And pugaal (phonetic spelling again)? Does this mean 'crazy'? If so, how is it different from 'divaani'?

Thanks,
G1

bey koff = Bewakoof (Bey-wa-koof) means idiot or stupid

Pugaal = Paagal (pa-gal)means Lunatic

Divaani = Deewani (D-waa-nee)means Obsessive (female), mainly used to described a (female) in love

Hope those words were not used on you

Paagal means crazy whereas deewani(for female)and Diwaana for male also means Crazy but in a manner as to say crazyly in love (lovestruck).
Beywakoof means stupid or a fool .
My mother tongue is not Hindi so i maybe wrong on both counts.

Thank you!!

Ok, maybe I was being cynical as it appears the translations were correct!

I think I have been using divaanaa/divaanee inappropriately though.

Note to self: must stop shouting at bad drivers 'you are crazy in love'!

Lost all my street cred now.

lol

Be advised, such phrases sound offensive to strangers. We use them in jest among friends.
Guaranteed to end up with a broken jaw in North India, if used against strangers. That include maniac drivers.

Thanks for the warning! I wasn't actually planning to wind down my window and shout them in someone's face. More like an expression of frustration one mutters under one's breath in the safety of one's own vehicle!
A broken jaw though? You paint a pretty aggressive picture. I haven't seen a single road rage incident in 6 mths.

What about being dragged out of vehicle and shot with a country made gun? Or being mowed down by the other vehicle while you are standing and arguing with the murderous maniac?

A few weeks ago in Gurgaon (Delhi's IT/BPO suburb) a road rage victim succumbed to his injury. This is what actually happened...

An doctor in his small car had a couple of local roughs in a SUV trailing him. The SUV hit the car's bumper and an argument ensued. Both the parties packed off after few abuses, but that was not enough for the roughnecks. They pulled the SUV parallel to the car, reached out and grabbed the docs neck out of his car's window. They dragged the poor chap (his hands firmly on the steering) along with his vehicle for some distance before letting him go.

Folks from up north are a bit more rough ,a friendly warning hurts no one friend.I have seen arguments for sillier things than being called a fool .
