Hello Lyn,we were in Kashmir in June.It is very difficult to send emails from Srinigar due to the power failing at all times of the day.Possibly the phones are out with the earthquake. It may be very difficult for Tahnee to contact you so hang in there,I hope and pray you hear from her soon.

I'm sure she will be fine

was she in srinagar?

from the reports I have read (and I am by no means an expert), Srinagar seems to have been spared the worst of it.

Let us know how things go

Hi Lyn

Sounds exactly like srinagar to me.... look at this picture from the bbc news website:

You can see that the border of afghanistan is almost exactly 200ks from srinagar. so hopefully she will be fine.

although the map puts srinagar in the affected areas, the reports that i have read say that srinagar has not been too badly affected. The bbc reports that some badly injured people are being airlifted to srinagar, so it cant be too bad:

read here

The bbc site also has a message board which you can post messages on to try and get in touch with people in the region. (follow the link above)

I would imagine that the phone lines would be out, so no news is not bad news

I really hope you hear something soon though

lynn - from news reports here in the UK ( and I am aware that news is sometimes reported differently throughout the world!) it does seem indeed that Srinagar and its immediate area have been speared the worst. However, it's almost certain that communications are truly difficult, if not non-existant at the moment. Don't give up hope - she is almost certainly OK. But, she may not be able to contact you yet, and, we mustn't forget, that sometimes if one is caught up in a crisis, calling home is sometimes the last thing on one's mind!

How did she contact you last thursday? By email/mobile phone/hotel phone - what?

Keep strong - and keep us posted.

Dear Lynn,
I am an Ex Army doctor who was posted in the area which has been affected in Kashmir. The best possible people who, you can hope to give the best possible Data might be the Indian Army Helplines which u might be able to get form your local Embassy. And your daughter being a foreign tourist, she stands a chance to be noticed early. I am sorry for security reasons I am unable to give you the names of the Field Ambulances , deploid in that areas.Hoping and praying.....that you hear form youe loved one soon.

I imagine exchanges and mobile networks will be heavily oversubscribed in this part of India at the moment as well as any damge done to the communications network.
Your daughter may well be having a hard time contacting you, try not to worry too much I'm sure there's an explanation and it will all turn out alright!!

Lyn,If she is not in Srinigar another place may be Phalgham, this is an extremely beautiful little place 2 and a half hours [95kms]southeast of Srinigar. When we were there we stayed at Hotel Brown Palace,a popular hotel for foreign tourists.I am sorry I do not have a phone number.

lynn, i am sorry to hear of your plight with your daughter and hope that you hear from her soon and that all is well. i would suggest changing the title of this post because it does not really reflect the situation; that you're daughter may be in kashmir and you need to know if anyone can help locate her.

Hi Lynn,

Its very sad to see you disturbed but let me assure you onething that nothing would have happened to Tahnee....because I found out from lot of my friends (in Jammu n Kashmir) that No Foreigner was affected in that region.

Infact one of my Friend has landed in Shrinagar three days back along with his Family for Holidays and as per him its bit difficult to communicate and travel if one is stuck up in far off rural areas.

Iam currently at Delhi and can help you in locating her, you can mail me at p_cash@cibol.com or pm me her latest Photograph and a letter from you for finding her,---which I will try to get it published in major News papers and aired through famous TV News channels in INDIA.

Lets Hope n Pray that Tahnee contacts you as early as she can.
May God Bless you
