Help please. I'm a little bit overwhelmed.
Been busy reading allot of IM over the last few days. I want to start researching where to go but I just don't know where to start. Could some kind person give me a hand on places other than Agra & Jaipur that I should look into going to. I arrive and depart from Delhi, so I don't want to travel too far from there.
Now I know allot of you guys will recommend getting over there and see what happens, but I would like some idea of what I'm going to do before I get there.
Thank you in advance,
Jippo

Thanks for the quick reply.
OK I leave 6th of October. I'm provisionally staying for 2 weeks but will probably stay longer. I will be on a budget, probably £10 a day or something like that. I'm not too sure about transport. I am definitely going to get the train down to Agra but that's about all I've planned. How far will a taxi take you? Can you get someone to drive you round? How much will that cost?

If you only have $18/day to live on, I'd advise against a taxi or car w/driver -- they will get more expensive than that, and you'll still need hotels and food.
As far as where to go, if you only have two weeks and are coming and going at Delhi, don't try to go too far, or your only memories will be of trains and buses.
Have you spent any time with a guidebook, reading about what there is to see in India? Much depends on YOUR interests, in my opinion.

Yeah i've just this evening ordered a Map & guidebook off Amazon. Do you think £10 a day is too little? I'm sure i'll end up spending more. I have little will power regarding spending.
Also it really looks like 2 weeks wont be enough, I think i'll put the flight back a couple of weeks.

you can easyly live on 10 pounds a day if you travel sleeper class in trains and eat on the street or in cheep restaurants.
stay as long as you can! the longer the better.
the delhi, agra, fathepur sikri, orcha, khajuraho, varanasi, delhi route is great.
enjoy

Now that I am back In Europe for one year since last visiting India , India still blows my mind, I could say go here go there , but I am afraid the country is too big and I do not have a clue who you are, though I agree that one should have sort of a plan before traveling , it's way cool to come across a place or name for that matter , of witch you have the feeling you should go to , I mean you could be reading up about a place and say , : Yes that is the place I want to go and visit , or see a picture and go : Wow I want to go and see with my own eyes , no matter what you were told , situations change , people change their minds , I have not seen the Taj Mahal but I have seen other very beautyful things , and most of these were not on the traveling menu :-) .
PS As I am not a pro in writing this message could come across way different then I have intended , All I wanted to say was , wherever you go
Have a real good time .
Cheers
Dennis

52 weekend breaks from delhi
Quote:
I will suggest you buy a book called "52 weekend breaks from Delhi" by outlook traveller. It has got information on 52 places around delhi (within drivable distance as they say, Indian roads BTW are not good for over 500km drive)
They give 1/2 page write-up on each place and even smaller places are covered (which is what I personally like)
The book is real cheep around Rs 200 and good worth
Get yourself over there mate
Chill out
get to Jaipur for a day then onto Pushkar and take it from there
speak to other travellers and you'll soon find your route mapped out
Follow the direction of the wind ...Unless you have 2-3 weeks then run like the wind
Otherwsie let the wind blow you in the right direction ...where ever it leads you'll love

For a' that, an a' that,
It's coming yet for a' that,
That man to man, the world, o'er
Shall brithers be for a' that.

Jippo,
I suggest you see Agra(as you have already planned) and then move to Lucknow and head for the Uttaranchal hills - Nainital, Almora, Ranikhet and Kausani. October is a fine time to spend in the hills.
