had no idea whose new year this was - till i looked it up
its really interesting how new year's vary from region to region in the same country... have included communities, other than the regional ones, however, it is not a comprehensive list January / February Tamil Nad - Pongal Chinese - Lunar New Year [january - february, depending on the new moon of the first lunar month] Tibetian - Losar [january through march] March / April Andhra Pradesh - Ugadi Karnataka - Ugadi Maharashtra - Gudi Padwa Sindhi - Cheti Chand Mid April northern spring Assam - Bihu Bengali - Pôila Boishakh Kerela - Vishu Orissa - Vishuva Sankranti Nepalese - Baisākh Punjab - Vaisakhi October - November northern fall Gujarat Marwari the Islamic new year occurs on Muharram. nearly every month is a new year cool!please add to the list - it'd be great to have all the new years. lets drink and be merry - heck its a new year dashit! salud !! :brishti |
