I want hair extensions!! Can I get them in India anywhere? Perhaps at Lakme?

So many gals have hair extensions. It can sound sick to have someone elses hair attached to your head but most people cannot tell the difference!! Most of this hair comes from India and is necessary in this day and age of hair dryers and abrasive dyes. There are posters everywhere in LA to export hair for this purpose from Tirupati but it costs $ 1000 - $2000.

I wonder if the trend of hair extensions has caught on in India? If so, it is probably cheaper there! Hair is an indigenous product to India after all.

Any help finding a salon would be much appreciated...

If you have Indian-like hair yourself and can get a recommendation from someone who's had it done there, go ahead. I wouldn't have it done in India, otherwise. Is there some reason you don't want to just grow your own hair out?

Yes - good idea. Go to Tirupati, find a woman with the right hair for you, just about to be shaved, and put in a private offer. It will be a lot less than $1000 !!!

No comments on my suggestion yet....

It certainly would be the cheapest way of doing it, and you could pick the hair that suited you the best. But perhaps you would feel a bit squeamish about knowing where your new hair came from, or might feel a bit embarassed asking the person who had grown it, even though you knew for sure that she was going to get it cut off anyway?

I guess some people would prefer their extensions to come from 'the shop', and be suitably unconnected with the donor ? Kind of like buying secondhand clothes, maybe: there's no problem buying a pair of trousers from a secondhand shop, but to go up to a guy who's just about to take them off and put in a bid...
