Great history of indiamike.com

Hi all

A friend gave me an interesting link to a website which archives the activity on the web, the website changes etc. are all recorded and archived there.

The site has a "WayBackMachine" which shows how the site looked like.

The 1st site I wanted to know the history of (need I say). IM

They have archived IM since 1999 but it is interesting to see it in Sept. 2001 when it came in its present Aavtar.

So from 136 posts in Sept 2001 we have grown to over 38,000 posts and from 43 members to over 3,000 members.

Kudos to Indiamike, AlanD, -m2- ...and all others who have made it happen. (I picked up the names from the posts of 2001 only..so sorry others I can't name you)

The site in Sept. 2001 looks like this

..and the forum looks like this

Great job fellows.. Anyone registered on IM in 2001 can have a beer/chai on me whenever in Delhi.

Ashish

That's so cool.
I can remember loads of fairly idiot posts on the Thorn Tree whinging about how everyone was too nice on indiamike and nobody was really controversial, so I took a look (as it sounded interesting and more pleasant to me). I didn't post very often until earlier this year, but then I'd never had an internet connection until then.

Just as an amusing aside, when I first noticed your post and you mentioned Indiamike history, my immediate thought was whether the history was told from a Hindu Nationalist, Colonial Apologist or Marxist perspective! I have to admit I was a little disappointed that it wasn't any of them! But, thanks for a very interesting post.

AND most of all thanks to Indiamike himself!

Cheers

The old vomit green colors, I dunno why I picked those.

I remember revamping the site and trying to pick some new colors for it and was really tired and wanted to just wrap it up for the night and couldn't decide which colors to pick so I looked over at my bed, which was calling me to sleep in, and took a digital snap of the plaid sheets on it since I liked the colors and ran it through a paint program and picked out the current color scheme. All in about ten minutes or so and was able to finish it up and get some sleep (so much for creativity).

I would have to look in my archives if I can find what this site looked like way way before then. Probably about five years ago when it was just a personal page. Makes me cringe thinking about it

We are getting close to our three year anniversary and I don't think anyone predicted that we still would be around that long and I can almost pinpoint to the day when I stopped getting eight hours of sleep a night

I think I still also have an archive of the original thorn tree thread from when it started.

Whoa....how the times flies. If I do the math it's around 2000 cups of coffee.

It's obviously a labor of love! And that's what sets it apart from other sites and forums.
