Google Earth updates

Hello All,

Has anyone else noticed much more of the Indian sub continent on Google Earth is now in high-res?

Much more of Rajasthan/Himalayas/Kerela etc are now hi-res which were previously very low qaulity. For example: Darjeeling, Varanasi, Kolkata, Almost all of Kerela, Much of the main towns in Rajasthan etc. (I could go on and on!)

I would post some bookmarks - but the forum software wont allow Google earth .kmz files to be uploaded from the looks of it.

Anyhow - If you haven't tried Google Earth for a while, now could be a good time to have another look! It's getting really good.

Cheers

HOLY COW!!!

I need to check out Google earth again! I thought it was amazing when I could see my car parked in my driveway! If the satellite shots of Leh are now this good, I can't wait to see what the other upgrades are!

how current are these shots? because the one of my house is definitely not a current view, in fact, it's over 3 years old.

The satellite photos are not all up-dated at the same time. They seems to be upgrading the shots of areas that were previously at lower resolution or photographed from a higher elevation, which makes sense. I guess getting new images of areas that already had high resolution / lower elevation images isn't a priority until they get better images of the neglected areas. The shot of my house is at least a year old, too.

vistet, have you checked out the images of Lhasa? Whoa!

Kept me busy until nearly 4.00am! Addictive, this Google Earth!

At least I can now detect my street, and the rectangles of grey concrete that are houses, along with the wonderful tree that used to be here. It is not as good as the resolution of my old London houses --- where I can detect easily the golden privet bush in one back garden, although I'm disapointed that my car was not parked outside when the shot was taken.

It's adictive; and dangerous to the purse to when on a capped bandwidth connection

apart from my usual haunts in Bangalore, I checked out the following places on Google Earth.

Golden Temple, Amritsar
Jaisalmer Fort
Agra Fort
Varanasi (fantastic seeing the boats off the ghats)

Great resolution.

We can share Google Earth bookmarks by providing the coordinates (Latitude & Longitude) which is diplayed at the bottom of the screen. For example the coordinates for Badrinath (see picture above) are:

Badrinath - 34 10 28 77 34 24

If you key in these number in the search bar, Google earth wiill take you there. Once you find your image, place your mouse cursor over the exact location and jot down the coordinates. Share the coordinates here.

Here are a few to begin with:

Agra fort: 27 10 44 78 01 19
Taj Mahal: 27 10 29 78 02 32
Bahai Temple, Delhi: 28 37 52 77 14 57
Brigade Road, Bangalore - 12 58 27 77 36 28

How are you able to go to a particular location? Can you give the address ? But the resolution is not that great? Is it specific to some locations only?

you can either type in the address (for US addresses) or the coordinates ( see thread #12)

It varies. Most cities have high resolution maps.

Aha! Cunning!

Here are some more:

Ghum Station Darjeeling 27 00 30 88 15 27
Cochin Fishing nets 9 58 04 76 14 30
Dharamsala Bus Stand 32 13 04 76 19 02 (This one borders on high and low res)
And of course for the budget tourist in Delhi: Paharganj! 28 38 28 77 12 47
