going to the movies while in India

I'm thinking going to the movies after dinner might be a nice thing to do.
I'm not into pub-crawling. Now, I've never seen an Indian film, but what language will I find?
Subtitled? Possibly English?
Pete

Bollywood flicks make their way to every state in India. They're most likely to be in Hindi. Within each state you'll find movies shot in the regional language.

You won't see much in the way of subtitles.

Generally Indian flicks are simple enough to follow with their rather predictable plot lines. It's worth it just to see the musical numbers.

no need for subtitles, the story will be self explanatory

I know you're being simplistic on purpose dani, but we don't want pikeman or others to get the wrong idea. While I'm sure you can enjoy a typical Indian film without subtitles, much of the meaning is lost even when you have the benefit of subtitles.

If you are in bigger cities then you would have no trouble finding out the multiplexes which might be running english movies.

If you happen to be in Jaipur, check out Raj Mandir theatre. Ask any cabbie or rickshawallah and they'll take you there. Raj Mandir itself is a sight enough even if you don't care about the movie.

pikeman, will you be watching the movie in India or in US? Most indian movies screened in the US have english subtitles.

With as long as those movies are, is it something one does "after dinner"?

If the theater has AC I would think it would be a good way to beat the heat of the day. I think my friends talked about hanging out and having snacks and socializing, sounds like fun.

I saw one movie during my 7 weeks in India; Veer Zaara at the Raj Mandir. It was over 3 hours long, no subtitles, but I didn't miss a thing! Great experience!!

I ducked into a theater in Delhi to get out of the rain and was wonderfully indoctrinated into the world of Bollywood via K3G. The experience was terrific. My Hindi was minimal at the time - you'll enjoy the film anyway. Hint: ask for a balcony seat, the crowd gets pretty rowdy down front.
