Normally they will require you to give them something in writing.
You could call up the branch and ask them if they will accept a fax, alternatively they may accept an email after you have spoken to somebody (and got her/his email address) Thats what I would do, call them up. |

Now we're doing online banking support... what an amazing site this is!
My understanding is that they have to send you a new password by post. If their system is even half-decent there will be no way that a bank employee can access your password, so they should not be able to tell you what it is.

Unfortunately I faced a similar situation and can speak from experience , this was with another bank though, but the rules will be similar.
As Nick-H mentioned , the only way you can get a new password is via a courier/registered post to your last mailing address that is available with the bank , they will not send it by email or disclose to you over phone. You need to concact them via their India phonebanking numbers and use your Telephone identification to validate or if you speak to a telebanking officer , reply to their queries and establish that you are who you claim to be. They will take your complaint and issue a new password via courier. If it is a joint account , you may request the other holder to visit the concerned branch and lodge a written request on your behalf , but even then the result would be the same. |

I've had the problem in UK with a UK bank (My fault, I locked myself out making mistakes in my password) ---- I'd just sold my house and had, for a few weeks, no fixed address but was staying with friends for a week here and two weeks there before leaving for India.
It was very tough to get around my bank's security arrangements, and I had to threaten to close my account unless they found a way! At which point they started co-operating instead of paroting the rules script, and it was sorted with a visit to a branch, laden, down with ID, that same day. But UTI (sorry, Axis...) don't have any branch here. I know that my excellent UTI manager would do any transaction I needed done from instructions on the phone, and you may need to do that until you get home. |
