Flip flops where did you buy them ..........

...........and how old are they.

In the category of silly threads:

As I was looking for the holiday stuff I found my old flipflops. I bought them in August 1984 for what now would be 70 eurocents on the Nepali / India border. As they also sold flipflops for 20 and 40 cents these were premium quality. Since then they have been used in over 50 countries and they are still going strong.

So, where and when did you buy your flipflops and are you still attached to them (or did you change over to Teva's )

Hans (5 days to go and counting )

It's not a matter of how long they lasted, It's how many miles you walked in them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I bought my flip flops on a small island off the west coast of Thailand a few years ago. Unfortunately my old feet need more support than flip flops can give me, so I've worn them only to avoid hot sand on beaches or for the quick walk to my vegie garden in the summer. I'll be taking then on my trip to India in January. Teva's are my favourite.

Flip flops is an interesting term- I'd never heard it being used till I moved to the US. Always called them "chappals". But "flip flops" makes sense to me now that I think about it. I have a pair that is three years old. When I was a child in India, my parents took me to the Bata store to buy a pair when I needed a new size (which would usually be after the current pair had been repaired by the cobbler atleast three times).

I hate flip flops. But my Rs250 sandals from Bata lasted a full six months every-day wear with plenty of walking.

When i was just in India last month, we arrived in Cochin, and our luggage did not.So immediately upon arrival after 32 hours of travelling to get there, we were forced to go shopping as all we had on was winter clothes from home..We bought a few things to wear, and then headed to BATA where i bought a pair of flip flops for about 200 rupees...(they had nice thick sole)..I thought i would wear them only until my luggage arrived and then slip into my Birkenstocks..

However, i did not ever take my Birkenstocks out of my suitcase (when it finally arrived)..I wore those flip flops on the entire trip...It was the best 200 rupees i ever spent, compliments of Emirates...

Looking forward to wearing them again on my next trip!!

I bought a pair of Batas in Delhi and they've lasted for four years! For just walking the house I usually borrow the Waldies from my hiking gear.

My favorite flip flops are from Brazil. When I go back next summer I'm going to get several more in different colors.

I bought mine in Bangalore 4½ years ago and they are totally worn out, but I haven't the heart to part with them . They cost me almost nothing and they walked miles and miles in India and are still walking miles at home. At some stage soon, we are going to bid each other farewell, but not to the trash-can. They'll be put away and occasionally pulled out to relive the happy memories of India

ah hah! i have wondered what chappals were.

in oz we call flip-flops thongs, what americans call thongs we call g-strings.

i thought that the thong-flip-flop-chappal was the national shoe of australia, but now think that it possibly the national shoe of india.

most australians have several pairs, i have orange floral and purple patterned. madam princess has more pairs than you can count, including some fancy ones. mine are cheap ones i bought for a few dollars in a supermarket here, and the really lucky purple ones have been to india.

a while back i saw a tv article on a community on the east coast of africa who made all kinds of toys and novelties from the literally thousands of thongs that wash up on there shoreline. seems they live in a thong graveyard.
