Flat Stan at Last!

Hello One and All!

I haven't been on this site for MONTHS. Feels like home to be back again. Well, as promised, I've attached 4 photos of Flat Stanley in Darjeeling. For those not in the know, Flat Stan was given to me by my little 7 year old niece, Helena, as part of a school project . I was instructed to show the man around and send him back to her with photos, postcards, and/or whatever else I wanted. She would then share it with her classmates.

We had a great time. Stan got his own seat on the plane. After spending about a month with the little monks in the monastery he decided he wanted to wear robes, too, so I made a set for him.

The first photo is STan before his "ordination" with a bunch of the monks. The second is old Stan with my Tibetan teacher. Third photo is Stan at my birthday party. That's me holding him, wearing a hat my friends bought me...a silly hat with fake braids attached. It's all the rage with little tourist girls from the plains. I sent it to my niece. The couple flanking me are Sonam and Puran who run a restaurant called "Sonam's Kitchen" in Darjeeling. It is the BEST place to eat here, so if you're in town, be sure to stop by. (go to Chowrasta and follow the road with the horse stables. Take that road past the market stalls on your right until you come to a 3-way fork, then take the road on the far right, uphill They are directly across from an internet place called "Cyber Planet") They are very nice and Sonam is an amazing cook. Plus, the have REAL coffee! Yum.

The final photo is Palden-la with Flat Stan. I guess Palden found his Mini-Me, wouldn't you say?

Okay. I thought I could get all four photos on one submission, but I guess not. Sorry they are so big, i've NO idea how to make them smaller!

The second photo of Stan with my Tibetan teacher is too big to post. I just spent half an hour trying to figure out how to make it smaller. All to no avail. Sigh! Oh well, here (hopefully!) is picture number four. See you! kiki

At last!! ....... Flat Stan in the flesh ........ err, well, at least on paper! And ordained too!! ..... .... hopefully he should be able to keep the vows ...... LOL.

Great to see your photos Kiki .......... and even more wonderful to see your smile after having such a demanding and testing time in Darjeeling. Welcome home.

Promise I'll write soon - I owe you at least one email ... .... just getting very busy and distracted (hopefully in a virtuous way!) ............. and I have some wonderful news to tell you too .......... hopefully I'll get chance to write today.

Hi Guys!

So glad you enjoyed the photos. I see Stan even got on the front page of Indiamike. He is one famous dude.

Dharmasoul, I await your email with bated breath.

Indiamike, yes, I really could use some advice on how to make the photos smaller. I tried going into "edit" and resizing the image, but instead of making the entire image smaller it cut out everything except one little corner. I always have trouble resizing images, so yes PLEEEEEEEEEZ advise!

Has anyone taken Barnaby Bear (UK Geography KS1) to India yet?I saw him on a trip to Rotterdam earlier this year and also know of a Barnaby who has visited New York - but what about the Subcontinent??

Just picking up on your first line, welcome back here -- I wasn't sure if you were back in the US or not. I missed the going away as I was probably on my way home around then. It will be nice to have on the spot weather reports from Darjeeling!
