Posed for a photo with Zakir Hussain after I was told he was famous. Outside Blue Frog in Lower Parel.

The Prison Yard In Winter

I work for a family of very famous actors in the South Indian film industry -- they do both Telugu and Tamil films. They're ultra famous here, yet I don't think people in other regions are that familiar with them.
At various functions, I'm always meeting Telugu and Tamil actors whom I'm later told are now famous Bollywood actors but I don't yet recognize anyone. Fame is different here than it is in the States. I worked in network television for 13 years and knew plenty of famous people but somehow it's nothing like the fame people achieve in India. Generally, the press seem somewhat more respectful of them here. (Or am I wrong and just haven't seen the negative?) Yesterday, I was watching an interview with, apparently, a famous actor on CNN/IBN. I was floored when the interviewer said he looked fat compared to the guy he was playing against (I think it was a film about gay lovers). Then they had a long conversation about just that. It was fascinating. |

Could have been David Suzuki in Pondi 2008, or Charles Sobraj Mapusa 1984, but then people mistake me for Geraldine Cox/ "Big Mumma" who started up an orphanage in Cambodia...

Yeah, she's at Sunrise still, I think. I worked at CCH, a locally run orphanage in Phnom Penh.
