Hey India-Mikers,
Thanks for all the great advice. One more question before I depart: I'd like to buy a bunch of upholstery fabric as well as silk and other fabrics for home furnishings. Any Dehli shops/markets you'd recommend? Or should I shop someplace else in N. India (Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur, Pushkar, Darjeeling) ? I'd also like to have some clothes made, anyplace that's good and can turn clothing around in a couple days? Same locations as above. Thanks, again, so much! Sue |

For silk, Varanasi is well known
For cotton fabric and tailoring, I would suggest you try Jaipur.

I got some overnight tailoring done in Jodhpur; very inexpensive.
It was just a long shirt and baggy bottoms -- not exactly salwar kameez but similar idea -- I'd found some very nice tie-dyed fabric and the shopowner sent me to a tailor across the way.
