exporting 350cc royal enfield from Nepal / India to Ireland / Britain
hello I am currently travelling around india (hopefully up to nepal) an a wonderful royal enfield, so wonderful in fact that I cannot bear the thought of parting with it and would like to export it back to Ireland
have any of you experience of shipping bikes? , I would be particularily interested in knowing whether the emissions / construction of the bike would conform to european standards (its a 91 model) any info whatsoever would be most appreciated |

Hello Charras,
Your best bet would be to contact a shipping agent in a port city like Mumbai. I bought a carved teak chair in Changmai Thailand and had it shipped back to Canada. Not overly expensive getting it to Vancouver, but the truck trip to Calgary amounted to half the shipping cost. Years ago when working in Australia had a chance to pick up a Vincent Black Shadow at a reasonable price, but turned it down because I just needed a bike for transportation. To this day I kick myself for not buying it and shipping back to Canada. Is yours the big single? I had an Interceptor 750 twin for a number of years. Too much power and too weak a clutch. The singles are a fine bike. Have you thought of catching a freighter back to the UK? Some carry paying passengers and you could likely have the Enfield put on board.... Just some ideas. Wanderer22 |

thanks for the all the info,
my predicament is that I'm on a RTW trip and was planning on shipping the bike back as a retirement present for my father, (well for him to tinker away and keep himself occupied, I'll see about relinquishing ownership rights , my flights out of kathmandu and ideally I'd like to keep the bike till then, heres hoping cheers again |

Charras,
Checkout the Royal Enfield Yahoo group. There are many RE enthusiasts who can help and provide advice with any question regarding shipping, riding and fixing etc.

an older Indian spec enfield will definitely not meet euro standards for many things and you should check with your embassy regarding requirements for import and registration. If this is inconvenient, perhaps your dad could check at the home end with customs and the vehicle registration office.
I don't know about european regulations, but when I checked about the possibility of bringing a used bullet into Canada a few years back, only a model older than 15 years could have been brought in unless it met all the current spec regulations. |
