Euros / Dollars
hello there!
just trying to solve some questions about what currency carry to India. I'm from Barcelona and i would prefer to not change to dollars and go to India only with euros.
Last year i was around north only with euros and i didn't found any problem but this year i'm thinking on visiting the Taj, Fathepur Shikri... just because i remember they were impressive. As i read now there is 2 diferent entrance fees one for indians and one for non-indians.
Does somebody knows if they have to be payed in dollars? or you just can go with rupees or, even, euros?
Do you think on anything in India for which i MUST have dollars?
thanks to all

You don't have to take cash, you know. Just take your ATM card and get rupees as you go; your bank will do the conversion. A couple of cash dollars are handy; I was in one place where, at night, they wouldn't change a check and was happy to change a $10 or $20 note to get me through the next day.

Do not convert your Euros to dollars - both are equally welcome
Entry fees to monuments are quoted in dollars but you have to pay the rupee equivalent.
The bigger hotels also quote in dollars but they are normaly paid via credit cards. All of them will accept any major currency, as far as I know.

thanks for your quick replies.
I just wondered to not get without the oportunity to visit any monument or whatever because i didn't have any dollars note.
I wasn't thinking on hotels rated in dollars, i'm going on a lower budget. So at the end i'll go to india just with euro notes as it seems i can go and visit everything just paying in rupees which was what i expect but you can never know in India everything is posible.
thanks a lot,

They translate the dollar price into Rupes so be sure to take that (Rupees). Sometimes if you have dollars it can work to your advantage, 2 dollars versus 100 Rupes is a modest deal. Saves a few pennies so why bother.?
Gone are the days when foreign currency commanded a huge premium over the quoted rates. Now if you can get one rupee more than the official rate for a dollar, you have done very well!
Also, the premium on a Euro is a little more these days - but these things vary and are not likely to be more than 2% or so above the daily rates.
