When and where in Delhi will Dussehra be celebrated in October this year? Would "First City" be a good source for details when I arrive? Thanks for any input!

Hi

Hi,
The Ramlila Grounds I believe is the best place .... and then the Hanuman temple in Connaught Circus.

Cheers,
Dhananjay

Dussehra falls on Oct. 12 this year. If possible, visit the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh and witness the celebrations there !

Yes. We did. We also have done so many things in so many threads so many times.

This is preferable to the non-travel related issues which are also done in so many threads so many times !

I thought we'd gone into some detail as to the nature of navaratri and vijaya dashimi, but I can't find the thread if we did...

Ah, that brings back wonderful memories! I was at the Kulu Dussehra mela in 1971 -- my first days in India. There were hardly any foreigners there, the villagers were shy. There was a hand-cranked wooden ferris wheel that was about 16 feet high ... those were simpler times in India!

- This is another recent thread that speaks about Navaratri and Durgapuja. Nick, are you referring to this one?

Mikki, Do keep in mind that Dussehra and other Indian festivals don't fall on the same date every year. This year Dussehra is on October 12th.

Enjoy - it is one of my favorite festivals.
And as Shimla suggested, I've heard great things about the Dussehra celebrations in the Kullu valley.
