"Don't go to India because ..." Prejudices and Misconceptions Collected
Advice from Granny
My boyfriends gandmother told me to "please don't use the toilets that the natives use"...
What toilets am I then supposed to use? I'll just hold it for 3 months then, kinda hard in India

Laerke, your Granny was being a bit dated in her wisdom and obviously never heard of the Parryware porceline throne!

India is a bit like DisneyWorld. There are strange & exotic buildings, people in unusual costume, friendly rodents and dogs running about, and any bus ride on an himalayan road are way better for thrills than any rollercoaster Disneyworld .... or for that matter the world has to offer.
Don't go to India ... it's a bit like DisneyLand!

There is a lot of truth to that! But in case no one has been to it, there is an "Indian village" recreated at Disney's Animal Kingdom which in places looks a lot like the real thing. Disney is supposedly opening an Indian restaurant there next year. Portie
I haven't been to India yet, but everybody have warned me against Dehli-belly and the poverty.. and everything being different. My mother told me I couldn't go out alone, as I am a female. The only thing I am really affraid of is my stomach, the rest, I think I can handle. Time will show...

Very well said...Have to respond to a new one I got today, "Why did you choose India out of all places?". I'm not always in the mood to educate people about India so can anyone recommend the best sites for India travel so I can tell them to read about it? There are clearly two types of people. The first type is esctatic you're going to India and feels your excitement immediately
; the second type has to ask why you're going and thinks you;'re insane.
My cousin was kidnapped in July 95 in Kashmir, him and 4 other western back-packers(one was executed)The others were never seen again.
I will be making my first trip to India later this year with my family.
However....i will be giving Kashmir a miss.

try: www.indiamike.com Dont go to India because you might fall in love.
When you leave her, your heart will be left behind, as if you lost the love of your life. Everyday you live without her will bring you down, like a junkie without a fix.
Dont go because you'll end up contemplating life and existance itself, until the unrelenting thoughts tear your mind and soul apart.
Dont go because returning to the land in which you came from may be too much to handle. The bottom of your world may fall away, and youll enter a downward spiral of pain and awakenings.
Dont go to India. Go to Amsterdam where its safer. You can spend all your money in the Netherlands. India will supply you with more than you can consume. Ending up immobile, unable to think or move, your existance will turn into a cloud of never ending smoke. Your world will be full of best friends who remain nameless. Everything you once knew about life will fade away. You will be reborn into the heart of humanity. And when you leave her... You will feel the horrible death of the self you once knew.
