Some practices described in Vedas apparently specifically needed cow's body parts and the like.

I've read about stuff like that. Didn't know it was in the vedas though!

Didn't want to start historical debate. That goes on and on and on in endless boring circles. So what. Now is now. The argument for just eating all the cows to solve ALL the problems (what problems?) in India especially would be ridiculous. A loss of fuel, loss of agricultural land, loss of transportation, loss of manure on the road, loss of traffic delays ...

A friend of mine said this (knowing full well that I'm only going to MUMBAI) 'Be careful, take a weapon or something...because a Bengal tiger could leap out and attack you!'

Your friend must be joking or smoking something very hallucinatory! Unless you are going to the Sunderbans National Park in West Bengal India, where there are maneaters killing 30 people a year Otherwise, Tigers are very endangered & you'd be lucky to even see one in one of the other tiger protected National Parks.

Canadian immigration officials still get asked by American tourists about any tips/precautions to avoid confrontations with polar bears. <stay away from their arctic breeding grounds?)
