Digital South Asia Library

I just followed a link from another website and found a fantastic website for those interested in India's past.

Digital South Asia Library

Hundreds of old photos

Including this one.

Hundreds of old maps.

Including Rail maps from 1909 and 1931 covering the whole of South Asia at the following scale and detail.

Amazing Statistical details covering the period from 1840 till 1920.

The full 'The Imperial Gazetteer of India' from 1931 (I think)

There is even 'A selection from the illustrations which have appeared in the Oudh Punch from 1877 to 1881'

Every click seems to find more interesting things.

So we're not going to be seeing much of you for the next year or two?

Looks to be your equivalent to being a kid in a sweet shop

Fantastic find Steven, the University of Chicago South Asia Collection is a world class resource. I owe them a great deal of thanks. If one has a chance to visit the U. of C. try to see the field notes of some of the associated anthropologists. Pity they don't have the astounding district gazateers prior to the 1900's and before the Empire's interests stifled interest and creativity among the bureaucracy. I looked at one of mine recently and felt humble before the range of investigation undertaken then..
