Dehra Dun - Chandigarh and Amritsar

Hello everyone,

So I am now getting settled in Baroda and will prvide reviews and details as soon as I get a chance. So far it is good and I have had a chance to experience the surroundign countryside as well.

As I have mentioned before I am going to spend most of December travelling around with my girlfriend (the one with the ever so inconvenient and dangerous peanut allergy). We are starting in Delhi but since Rajasthan and Gujarat are not peanut friendly we are thinking of heading up north to Chandigarh, Dehra Dun and Amritsar. Can anyone give me an idea of what the weather will be like up there. It is very clear that Indians and me (Canadian) have very different notions of what is cold and hot weather so I was hoping someone here could give me an idea.

Thanks,
Thane

bring shoes

Your not gonne get snow in dheradune. But you might get loads of rain. And quite cold it can be. That is to say you Will be ok with a light jacket some shoes and a sweater. But then it does Change really quick back in to summer. I think I was there in January, had some rain for some days and then the sun came out and soon enough it was hot as can be in the daytime... T-shirt in the daytime and a blanket wrapt around you in the night. Sitting in the german bakery in rishekesh... Mmmm...
By the way unless you have some busness or other in dheradun its not such a fun place I think. Go to rishekesh too.

Chandigarh and Amritsar will have weather similar to autumn in Victoria. About 5 degrees Celsius with a little bit rain here and there.

In that case go to Gokarna (the beach that is) and Hampi (Indian Jones Landscape that is).

Many people in Karnataka use groundnut(peanut) oil for cooking food. Keep this in mind.

Hi Thaneb

Go to Champaner is only 50 km northeast of Baroda/Vadodara. Is a Worl Heritage Site and is a place lost in the middle of nowhere, a paradise for the traveller.
