As others have said, dark skin continues in India to be associated with poverty and low caste and genetic inferiority.

It's not about "fair play" at all. You're letting your western liberal instincts (or your Labor instincts, whatever they call it over there) blind you to the reality on the ground. Not even the poor and lower-caste want gods who look poor and lower-caste...
I am probably not getting it... It was the dark skinned folk in India that created the "Dark is Divine" movement, so I guess some folk want a change.

I think it is called "humanity" in the UK, rather than liberal instincts.

So much for gods... Anyone up for a friendly chat about Indian politics?

You are getting it. Of course, many live in the judgement of others when it comes to all kind of things. But some escape, and some encourage others to escape. I'm not sure that gods help much!

But how many people are getting it? We are like this only.

The article posted by the BBC is also posted elsewhere. The campaign "Dark is Divine" seems to be worldwide.

Yeah, the 'divines' are dark, Rama, Krishna and Mother Parvati. Shiva might be fair in color, but when he is angry, he becomes dark. The angrier, the darker. All should fear and love Shiva.

Or in our family stories when the husband of of my mother's elder sister wrote to our grandmother (maternal), that he is sending 50 'langaras' (a mango type or people who are lame) which he hopes people would like.
