chapatti man

This month's photo of the month reminds me of the article I ripped out of India Today magazine last week..... a South Indian christian housewife was cooking chappatis and Jesus' face appeared on one of the chappati....her local priest declared it a miracle. When I get home I'll try and upload the photo (I can't even upload my own here!). It definitely looked remarkably like Jesus but I guess it could have been any brown haired, shaggy bearded man.

Here is a link to the BBC article about this. Can't believe I missed this the first time around.

Is it a stencil? A computer-generated image?
A trick to evangelize India?
Was the person who saw this chapati praying to Mother Teresa? She needs one more miracle.
I bet someone is trying to figure out how to package and sell the whole thing to a bigger profit, think of the possibilities:
A new travel destination, with help from travel agencies and hotel magnates, Bangalore could become a world class destination and grow to 15 million overnight.
A packaged brand of religious chapatis, to be eaten at Easter, like matzos at Passover.
But the image needs a little more hair on top to play well in the West. Advertisement consultants can take care of this, no problem.

This isn't Jesus's first appearance on something like this. If you remember Jesus also appeared on a Tortilla many years ago.
Here's the link

Check out the Shrine. Big money spent there.

As an afterthought, I had a baked potato the other day that looked strangely like Ernest Borgnine, but I'm not sure if that was some divine intervention or not.

I have time for only one of the two, Bangalore or Chennai, in my upcoming trip to south India: only nine weeks and both megalopolises are at the bottom of the list when you think of all the smaller, more exciting places you can go to: Rameswaram, Kumbakonam, Kodaikanal, Mysore, the mind boggles. They were pretty nail-bitingly even until I found out about the chapati miracle; Bangalore now has the edge. New Mexico will have to wait.
I'm having eggplant tonight and will be on the alert for John Lennon, Ravi Shankar, Reverend Moon, and the Maharishi.

Thanks for the photo, Mike....saves me having to work out how to do it. BTW... I never did find that man smoking out of his ears - no photo, no prizemoney... damn. I did try smoking out of my ears though and to my mind, it's physically impossible.

Keeping up with Jesus

Adding to an older thread and staying on the Jesus trail in India ...reports just came in of a Jesus crying in Goa.

More to come as we follow this story

Hundreds flock to see weeping picture of Jesus

Hundreds of people have flocked to a church in India to witness a painting of Jesus "weeping tears of blood".

The picture belongs to a 14-year-old girl from the village of Ambora-Camurlim in South Goa who first saw it weeping in her bedroom cupboard.

Her family alerted the parish priest who transferred the portrait to the village church.

Since then locals have queued up at the church to take a look at the portrait.

Church spokesman Father Olavo Pereira told the Deccan Chronicle: "The church cannot simply exploit the situation, we have to be careful and verify it before we take a decision.

"Visions are generally subjective and need more careful examination. The world-famous pilgrimage sites of Fatima and Lourdes in France, where similar visions appeared, took years before being officially recognised."

Aubergine seeds spell out 'Allah'

An Indian woman cut open an aubergine to find seeds spelling out the word Allah.

Visitors are now flocking to see the aubergine at a house in Mendhasal village, near Bhubaneswar.

Oriya language daily, Sambad, reports the aubergine was bought from the local market.

Muhammad Khalil's wife sliced open the vegetable. She noticed the seeds read 'Allah' in Urdu script.

She informed the Imam who ordered the vegetable to be kept in a mosque for offering prayers.

Hundreds of Muslims are converging on the mosque to see the vegetable.

So as I sat down tonight to enjoy my dinner, which consisted of a huge bowl of Post Fruity Pebbles (yeah I'm 34 and eat Fruity Pebbles for dinner, so what!), to my surprise when I went to take to the first spoonful out popped my BUDDY CHRIST. I thought about grabbing my bowl of Fruity Pebbles and running (walking quickly) to the nearest church and proclaim it as a miracle. My hunger pains told me otherwise and I decided to eat the Fruity Pebbles, Buddy Christ and all. I am a little worried about having Christ in my stomach, though I am sure that this like all things shall pass.

Mike

ps...there is just something really wrong with me.[iamslow]
