Calling Canada from India

Hi all,

What's the cheapest way to call overseas to say Canada/USA from around India? I read about ISD, but what are they? Calling card chips for phones? I feel really ignorant, sorry.

Calling from India with these STD/ISD booths all over India is dirt cheap and the lines are clear. You will find these yellow booths in every nook and corner of India, no need for cell phone. Enjoy your trip.

I've found that it depends on the time of day you call Canada. I know if I call around 8pm India time I'm charged like 20rs. a call! (same price it is to call India from Canada) but in the morning it's much cheaper....then again that could just the STD/ISD booths I went to.

But really, your cheapest bet is the Internet phones at internet cafes. That's dirt, dirt cheap - your best bet

Through my experience, dial 000167 from any phone in India..That will connect you to a Canadian operator...You then get the option if you want to call collect or put in your calling card number...You may have a slight charge at your hotel for the use of the line, but it is only cents..I believe it is called IDD...

I use this for every country I have travelled to (there is a guide with all of the toll free numbers to use for each country).

Anyhow, I don't know if this works for you, but that is how I choose to call home
